Description

Paraty’s unique XIX century colonial urban planning and architecture makes it one of the most picturesque places in the world.

I’ll take my guests on a 2 to 2.5 hours walk through the historical center of the city considered to be protected heritage and a national monument. You will learn about Paraty’s importance as a portal for travelers and their impact on the development of several historical eras of Brazil, such as the terminus of the 800 km “Golden Road” that financed the Portuguese empire for hundreds of years.

The walk not only tells the history of the city but also visit important landmarks, get to know great food options, what to do and how to spend your time best.

We finish the walk with a brief “Capoeira experience” in a picturesque open space where guests can participate through music and movement according to their ability and desire

Testimonials

“Juanjo provided an outstanding tour of Paraty filled with insightful details on topics including history, architecture, geography, urban design, and music. The big picture overview of the city was also excellent, and the maps and pictures Juanjo brought along added a nice touch. This was a rich and unforgettable experience worthy of more than a five star review!”

Juanjo’s tour of Paraty was excellent! His tour gave us a great understanding of the city and helped us decide which additional activities to pursue after the tour. He takes time to explain the different perspectives on history – we really enjoyed it and definitely recommend to others coming to Paraty.

“…Juanjo comes very prepared with a full presentation of the Brazilian history in connection to Paraty. He is not just another guide who has memorized certain phrazes: he is personally involved in the citylife and very inspired by history and capoeira. He will be able to answer any of your history-related questions. We did this tour just an hour after arriving in Paraty: which was a perfect start to explore this place. 2.5 hours well spent! He will also show you were to get the best drink in town ;)”

“It was a rewarding walk and actually felt like an awesome history seminar, as opposed to a touristic tour – as is proposed by Juanjo. The almost two hours walk (with brief pauses) went by in a blink of an eye and was very comfortable, besides the hard su. Make sure to bring lots a sunscreen and some water, and prepare yourself to be positively surprised.”

“…we are so thrilled that we had this experience, learning many fascinating facts about this wonderful city and country. Juan was fantastic, so passionate, enthusiastic, friendly and knowledgeable, not just with the history for Paraty and Brazil, but he also pointed out interesting historical and architectural details that we certainly wouldn’t have known about had we wandered around ourselves.”
